I’m so excited to share with you my concept of simple swaps!
After getting frustrated with not feeling well and not getting anywhere with Western medicine (you can read more about my health journey here), I started researching alternative options. The first book that I read that started me on this path was Natural Cures “They” Don’t Want You To Know About by Kevin Trudeau. [Slight side note here – I realize he’s a bit of a snake oil sleazy salesman type and doesn’t have a lot of credibility, but I’m grateful for the book to have started me on my path to health & healing. And frankly, a lot what he has in that book is largely confirmed in a lot of different sources that I’ve read!] The basic theme of the book is that most health issues can be healed by doing the same things – better diet, reduce toxins, and make better lifestyle choices – essentially how to set things up so your body can start healing itself. I stayed up until the wee hours reading that book and while grateful for the glimmer of hope, I quickly got overwhelmed with simply how much was recommended in order to turn my health around. I like to do things “by the book” and thinking of completely overhauling practically everything I was doing was daunting.
So, when I first speak with clients about making changes in favor of better health, I strongly encourage them to make small, sustainable changes. Don’t go and pitch everything that is “bad” and replace it with “good/better” – not only is that expensive, but it will likely not be sustainable in the long run. Instead, when you run out of a “less than optimal” choice, replace it with a better choice.
I see Simple Swaps as being a frequent feature in my blog – in the areas of food, toiletries, household cleaners, and lifestyle choices – just to name a few things you can expect to see in the coming weeks and months!
